Ever felt overwhelmed by words and actions that tear into your souls like the teeth of a shark?
It is not uncommon. In our culture, we have: movies with titles like “Mean Girls”, commercials that degrade the men of our culture, “dog eat dog” attitudes in the workplace, and Facebook posts that drive impressionable teens to suicide.
How do we counteract these vicious attacks? Do we fight back? Run and hide?
I propose we look up. Just like a diver swimming with sharks looks up for help from the well-equipped boat above, so we should looked to our Creator. The one who made us is well-equipped and often the only place to turn that works.
In Psalm 124 in the Bible, is a verse that directs me where to turn.
“… if the LORD had not been on our side when men attacked us, when their anger flared against us,
they would have swallowed us alive; the flood would have engulfed us…
Praise be to the LORD who has not let us be torn by their teeth …
Our help is in the name of the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.
Are you being chased down by sharks? Look up. God came to save you in the here and now and also for eternity. Cry out to Him.
Whether you know Him or not. Look up and call on the name of Jesus. Ask for rescue. He has rescued me. He’ll rescue you too.
